On an everyday basis, we are all bombarded with an endless stream of consciousness: What’s next on my to-do list? Did I pay the water bill? I need to book that flight for the holidays. Shoot, what’s for dinner? It’s perfectly normal to get sucked into this stress vortex, but it doesn’t have to be that way. During meditation we can quiet this “monkey mind.” It’s a practice that allows us to live in the present moment, and in doing so, tap into a newfound sense of compassion for ourselves and those around us.
Meditation is important work, but getting started and sustaining a lifelong practice can be difficult. Many people find it helpful to have a dedicated space to help build and sustain the habit. You might try sitting in a sunbathed corner of your room in the morning; on a quiet rock along the creek near your favorite running trail during lunch; or at the foot of your bed before your head hits the pillow at night. Lighting a candle or burning incense is a traditional and beautiful addition to any space, and reading a passage of a favorite book (we like 365 Tao: Daily Meditations or The Untethered Soul) can provide wonderful focus to send you into the rest of your day. Creating a mindfulness ritual is truly unique, so make it right for you!
To make your meditation practice even more intentional, try taking a full-spectrum Joy CBD Softgel or a serving of Calm Oil with Zero THC 30 minutes before sitting. For some people, this may help keep restlessness at bay and bring attention to the present moment—so you can focus on your breathing, not your to-do list—and build a practice you will take with you for years to come.
